Performance Principle of the Week: Purpose Has a Location. Are You in It?
Some years ago, I read that happiness isn’t having money or things. But rather...
Happiness is simply progress. And I 100% find this to be true. And so...
No matter what achievement I attained or money I made, I was NOT happy unless I felt that my spirit, mind, and/or body was progressing. And so...
In this newsletter edition, I’m going to share the 3 conditions of progress.
And understanding these 3 conditions is of the utmost importance—because they can lead to an instantaneous breakthrough, finally free you from depression, and/or lead to your next million.
Because even excellence breaks down when it’s planted in the wrong soil.
You know I have to start with a biblical breakdown:
Did you know that at least 40–50 distinct places in the Bible were explicitly named because something good, miraculous, or covenant-related happened there?
The exact number depends on interpretation, but here are a few examples:
• Bethel – “House of God” — Named by Jacob after he encountered God in a dream (Genesis 28:19)
• Jehovah Jireh – “The Lord Will Provide” — Named by Abraham after God provided a ram in place of Isaac (Genesis 22:14)
• Rehoboth – “Room” or “Broad Places” — Named by Isaac after finding a well without opposition: “Now the Lord has given us room” (Genesis 26:22)
• Peniel – “Face of God” — Named by Jacob after wrestling with God and surviving (Genesis 32:30)
My personal favorite is Bethel.
To be honest, the theme of my life over the last few months has mirrored the story of Bethel.
How it relates to my life is another story for another day—but here’s the gist:
The place was originally called Luz—just an ordinary city—until Jacob had a divine encounter there, dreaming of a ladder reaching to heaven. He renamed it Bethel, “House of God,” marking it as holy ground. But over time...
Bethel became corrupted—a center of idolatry where golden calves were worshipped instead of the living God. Later...
in an almost poetic twist, another nearby city was renamed Luz, as if to restore what the original had lost. And so...
There are probably about 100 stories to be taught here, but today let’s focus on these:
This physical place and name were not fixed.
The location had multiple names, and the same name was used for multiple locations.
That location had a variety of purposes—both a place of worship and a place of idolatry.
So the question remains:
What guarantees happiness—aka progress?
From a worldly standpoint, it’s really a combination of 3 things (assuming you are in Christ and Christ is in you):
The 3 Conditions of (Progress) Breakthrough
1. Do your best
2. At the right things
3. In the right environment
BUT...
You HAVE TO have all 3. Because...
Depression, frustration, and failure can set in if you only align 2 of the 3.
Imagine doing your best in the right environment—but at the wrong things.
Or doing the right things in the right environment—but not doing your best.
If this resonates, wait until you see the full framework. Join me live in the Predictable Profits Webinar on Thursday. https://www.nicolepurvy.com/predictable-profits
But yeah, None of those lead to progress. They lead to stagnation.
The worst kind is either:
Doing your best in the right environment at the wrong things
OR
Doing your best at the right things in the wrong environment
Whew!
I suspect… this could be you.
It was me.
I was doing my best at the right things—in the wrong environment.
That’s why I moved to Atlanta (surprise if you’re just learning this!).
Y’all know I love the South Bay in Cali with all my heart—but for where my life is, it wasn’t the best place for me. BUT...
It’s home for me, but it was time to hit the road.
I’ll share more about the decision—and my new life and new offices—on the podcast either this week or next.
But for now, I want you to ask yourself:
Am I doing my best at the right things in the right environment?
There’s one other thing I forgot to mention:
Environment isn’t just physical.
It can be a state of mind.
(This, I believe, was the case with Jacob/Israel. He was about to see beyond our visible spectrum based on his mental and spiritual state.)
How can you shift your state of mind to grow your business and/or further your purpose?
Next week, I’ll share the difference between:
States of mind
Decision
Emotional states
Disciplines
It’s all training.
And it’s time to condition for the next level.
If this resonates, wait until you see the full framework. Join me live in the Predictable Profits Webinar on Thursday. https://www.nicolepurvy.com/predictable-profits

Film Study: When I Realized My Environment Was the Bottleneck
I realized I was in the wrong environment when a few truths hit me all at once:
Our private equity fund needed boots on the ground in Atlanta—period.
I had moved back to California in 2020 to heal from a personal trauma... and I had. So why was I still there?
I felt completely secluded and isolated in the South Bay/LA area. We don’t even have time to unpack the cultural nuances—I just knew I needed a change.
And finally—one day I stopped gaslighting myself and admitted that LA was at least 10 degrees colder than when I lived there the first time. The weather sucked. It was cold. I hate the cold. Climate change is cornball.
I’m oversimplifying the decision, of course—but that moment was the spark.
It led to me leaving California and rebuilding in Atlanta—an environment finally aligned with my vision, energy, and next season of growth.
______
The Reframe: The Place Isn’t the Source—It’s Just the Setup
Myth Buster: “If it worked before, it must be the place.”
For a while, I thought staying in the South Bay was necessary to keep the blessings flowing. I was nervous to leave—like the environment itself was responsible for my growth.
But around that time, I started studying Luz/Bethel, and something clicked: the blessing wasn’t tied to the physical place. Bethel became sacred because of the encounter—but when people started worshiping the place instead of the presence, it turned into idolatry.
The breakthrough? Your environment should support your blessing, not be mistaken as the source of it.
