Last week we started on a journey uncovering the 7 questions that every business owner needs to ask themself before starting a new business or rebrand (real estate or not).
We already talked about:
1. The 6 areas where you need to design your life
2. The 7 types of communicators
3. 3 areas of business
So now on to #4 of the 7 questions that every business owner needs to ask themself…
What problem do you solve?
This may seem intuitive but believe it or not many people start a business because its what they want to do and they never finish developing the business by repurposing their goal with their customer's problem. Here's an example…
Imagine your little cousin wants to be an actress (what she genuinely wants to do). She goes out on auditions and starts making YouTube content. And so…
She tries out for every role and her Youtube page is all over the place. She's just out here doing stuff all because all she knows is that she wants to be an actress (this could be anybody in any business). But…
Then at some point she says: the problem I’m going to solve with my acting is: I'm going to solve the problem of midday crash for people with 9-5 jobs. Most people who have 9-5s crash between noon and 4 and I’m going to give them their dose of daily inspo and entertainment to pick them up.
This completely changes how she creates her Youtube content and what roles she goes after and how she and her agent brands her. But…
Will everybody who watches her content be an employee and watch it from 12-4? …no. But…
Now she's creating a brand in the industry and she has an audience she can speak to. She also now has tons of content ideas for her YouTube.
Your business should just be a vessel to solve your problem.
This also helps with decision making if you ever need to pivot. For instance…
If Blockbuster had defined the problem that they would solve as “home entertainment” instead of just being married to the idea of the physical locations when the market was clearly communicating that spending hours in a video shop every week was not what people wanted to do anymore, then we would be all be saying “Blockbuster and Chill” instead of “Netflix and chill”.
Again, your business is a vessel to solve a problem.
People dont like solving their problems…they want to throw money at it. Let them throw their money at you.
Speaking of problems that people want to throw money at, I had a problem many years ago that I wanted to throw money at and I couldn't find the solution, And so …
I created the solution to solve for myself and other people.
My problem was I wanted a safe space to learn about real estate without Guru energy, you know what im talking about…basically its kind of like how we celebrate the bride at a wedding but there is no wedding and sometimes its a man. Ion like that vibe. But it was more that I wanted…I wanted a place where I could get a family vibe where we all had the same values about money cuse I couldnt get that with my famaily.
We don't really talk about money in my family (except me and my mom) and I so desperately wanted that.
I wanted a family vibe that I imagined the Rockerfellers have. Or the Obamas, or the Wayans (I imagine they discuss money and opportunities a lot in their family.) And so…
I created the Better Than Success Real Estate League. I'm not pitching the league to you right here and right now. but…
This is why we are doing a secret beach house retreat in Hermosa beach Aug 28-30. It's capped at 40 people and it's invite-only.
I created a short application if you want an invite.
